LSCA AWARDS and RECOGNITION PROGRAM

Each year, LSCA  accepts nominations for those persons who have made outstanding contributions to school counselors or to education with special emphasis on the school counseling profession. Nominations must be received by the Awards Chair no later than September 14, but will be accepted by the chair at any time preceeding that deadline. Awards are presented to the winners at the annual conference held the first week in October. All persons nominated, with the exception of advocacy and legislator must be current members of LSCA. State winners will be forwarded to the American School Counselor Association for consideration for national recognition if additional information is supplied by the winner.

Elementary, Middle, High School Counselor of the Year
The purpose of the four awards is to recognize an elementary, middle/junior high, secondary and postsecondary counselor for outstanding service and achievement. In addition to the recognition given to the recipient of the award, positive public attention is focused on school counseling and thus provides an opportunity to educate others about school counseling programs.

ELIGIBILITY FOR CONSIDERATION:
1. The nominee must be currently employed as a full time counselor and have completed three consecutive years of counseling service at the level of nomination.
 
2. The nominee must be a LSCA member.
 
3. The nominee must hold a Master's Degree and be certified as a counselor by the state.

CRITERIA FOR RECOGNITION:
1. The nominee should possess the personal qualities thought to be desirable in a counselor.
 
2. The nominee must have been responsible for innovations in guidance and counseling programs, for providing leadership in the further development of existing guidance services, for demonstrating leadership in professional counseling associations, and for performing an outstanding service to the school and/or community.
 
3. The activities or accomplishments recognized must have taken place within five years prior to the date of presentation.


School Based Administrator/Supervisor
The purpose of this award is to recognize an administrator in a local district who has promoted and supported the school guidance and counseling program.
 
ELIGIBILITY FOR CONSIDERATION:
1. Nominee must be a school-based administrator who has consistently made a significant contribution to the improvement of guidance and counseling and/or has supported existing programs in the school setting.
 
2. Nominee must be currently employed as a full-time school based administrator and have completed at least three years of service. The nominee's primary responsibility must be in working with, supporting, and improving the guidance and counseling program(s) within a school.
 
3. Nominee does not need to be a member of LSCA.

CRITERIA FOR RECOGNITION:  
1. Supporting existing and/or new developmental guidance program(s) within the school.
 
2. Assisting school based counselors with their profession and implementation of their profession.
 
3. Recognizing the importance of the guidance and counseling program within the school.


ADVOCACY AWARD
The purpose of the Advocacy Award is to recognize an administrator, coordinator, director or supervisor whose leadership has shown outstanding services and impact in the guidance and counseling field for counselors on a local, state, or national level.
 
ELIGIBILITY FOR CONSIDERATION:
1. Nominee must be an administrator, coordinator, director or supervisor of district guidance and counseling services who has consistently made a significant contribution to the improvement of guidance and counseling services in the school setting.
 
2. Nominee must be currently employed as a full-time supervisor, coordinator or director of district guidance services and have completed at least three years of service. The nominee's primary responsibility must be in working with programs at the school level.
 
3. Nominee must be a member of LSCA.

CRITERIA FOR RECOGNITION:  
1. Initiation of developmental school counseling and guidance program.

2. Implementation of innovative counseling and guidance services.

3. Improvement of existing counseling and guidance services
